How to Clean a Luxury Watch?

How to clean a luxury watch

The luxury watches seen today are often seen in a board of directors’ room or at more formal social functions. However, this has not always been the case, and the media has been criticized for producing negative propaganda that portrays society in a bad light. Originally, it was possible to come across them on the dirty hands of the braves, the fighter pilots, during the Second World War.

Now, although your luxury watch surely will not be exposed to direct enemy fire, it can get dusty occasionally. While the oil on your skin or the dust in the air settles on your wrist, your watch can begin to appear rather dated. If the watch is as dear to you as it is to us, then the thought of it not being clean always dominates you.

In this post, we want to give you a brief guide on how to clean a luxury watch the right way so that you will understand what can and should be done, and what should be avoided.

Tips for cleaning your luxury watch

service and repair

Know your watch

You must know the status of your watch in a specific way. To start, you should know what its water resistance is. It is essential to know the general condition of your watch. This way, you will be informed of any changes in its condition and you will know when you should take it to a professional.

Prepare a cleaning kit

As with any project, everything turns out better when you have the right tools. Fortunately, cleaning luxury watches is simple and easy to achieve. This is what is needed:

  • A watch-specific brush or a soft-bristled toothbrush. If you use a toothbrush, it should be a used one (extra soft) that has been thoroughly cleaned and dried before inserting it into your watch.
  • Toothpicks
  • A clean microfiber cloth
  • Antibacterial and sanitary wipes

Remove the bracelet or strap

If you’ve never removed the bracelet or strap from your watch, ask your jeweler to show you how to do it. A spring bar is the best tool to accomplish this task. By removing the strap, you will have access to one of the dirtiest parts of your watch: the inside of the lugs and the last link of the bracelet. Plus, removing the bracelet or strap makes it easier to clean both the bracelet and the watch.

Clean the clock

Using one of the wipes, carefully clean all edges, facets, corners, and engravings. This review does not take much time and helps to see the most resistant dirt deposits.

Use a toothpick or brush for stuck-on dirt

If you find a stain of dirt that won’t come off with the cloth, cut the fragile end of a toothpick. Next, wrap the toothpick around one edge of the washcloth and gently work the edge into problem areas. Don’t lose sight of the toothpick; you don’t want it to tear through the wipe.

As you remove debris, gently clean it with the cleaning brush. But again, know your watch well. If it is made of a softer metal, such as 18K gold, it is best to be as thorough as possible with the wipe and seek professional cleaning in case of serious soiling.

Finish with the microfiber cloth

A soft, clean microfiber cloth finishes the job beautifully. Removes excess moisture and provides great shine. For best results, wrap the cloth around your finger and use your fingernail to push the cloth into hard-to-reach places, such as the interior tabs, case back seam, glass edge, and bezel.

This is all there is to keeping a luxury watch clean. As you can see, it does not pose any difficulty and is available to anyone.
